The Alton Marshall room offers a King size bed, private bath, with a private sitting room overlooking our pond. This converted attic room is $115 a night plus taxes. The guestroom features slanted ceilings, so we recommend that no one over 6 feet tall stays in this Chestertown lodging option.
History Behind the Alton Marshall Room
Alton and Doris Marshall bought the Mitchell House in 1980. They originally opened The Inn at Mitchell House in 1982. Both Al and Doris were retired schoolteachers and antique collectors/dealers. They thought running a B&B would be a fun retirement project. The Marshalls updated rooms, added bathroom and established a business that mostly focused on weekend rentals.
Unfortunately, the business was a little more work than they anticipated and with Al's health failing they sold The Inn at Mitchell House to the current innkeepers, Jim and Tracy Stone who have continued to operate this Chestertown bed and breakfast since 1986.
